Our language services

We specialise in translation of technical, accounting, IT and advertising material, but accept orders within most fields and areas. We also provide proofreading, editing and similar services, as well as desktop and artwork production.

We are ISO-certified and only work with translators who fulfil your demands and expectations. The factual information, the message, purpose and linguistic quality, must match the original text. Our translators are professional specialists who translate exclusively to their native language. Read more about our quality system here.

In addition to their language expertise, our translators must have practical experience and relevant technical knowledge within the areas they translate.

Files and formats

We want you to be able to turn to us regardless of whether you have a document produced in a word processor, a simple printed leaflet or instruction, or an advanced product in the form of a series of large technical manuals or handbooks. Of course we work with all forms of media, including translation and localisation of software and websites.

We can handle most file formats and applications for both PC and Macintosh:

  • Desktop publishing. We have the latest versions of most applications, for example FrameMaker, FrameMaker+SGML, InDesign, PageMaker, QuarkXPress, Corel Ventura and Interleaf. We also translate captions, etc, in EPS or other vector formats (Illustrator, CorelDRAW etc).

  • Microsoft Office. We translate documents created in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and FrontPage.

  • Tagged formats. We work with HTM, HTML, DHTML, SHTML, XHTML, XML, SGML, WML, PHP, ASPX, TEX etc, including JavaScript and similar file types as well as RSC, DLG and properties files.

  • Various standardised formats, such as TXT, RTF and CSV are also used.

  • We use translation memory software, or so-called CAT-tools, such as Trados, SDLX and Transit.

Proofreading and editing

A translator is chosen based on the specific assignment and the translator should always confirm their expertise within the area in question. Chosen translators must have experience with similar text types, or otherwise be well acquainted with the subject. Most of our regular clients have client-specific translators which leads to the translators becoming more specialized in just that client's specialty area.

Teknotrans uses J2450, which is a standard for measuring the quality of translations. In short, the system involves ongoing random testing of the quality of our translations. The translated text is checked against the source document and assessed using various parameters. The review is conducted in an Internet based interface where the results are displayed. The reviewed translator is informed of any negative comments and if certain errors affecting quality persist, the translator is removed from our HAL order system.

Charges

We normally charge per word or per hour. Our fees vary depending on language combination, text length, document format and delivery date. Request a free quotation here.

Tips and advice

There are a number of things to keep in mind when ordering a translation. For example, it is always useful to have reference material such as previously translated manuals, handbooks, leaflets or similar. Illustrations are often a great help when translating technical documents!

Contact us about how you can best prepare your documents / texts. Should special terminology be used? Is there a glossary available or would it be useful to compile one? Do you have internal regulations for your documents that we should take into consideration? What is the purpose of the translation – who is the target group? Is there any documented target group feedback from previous translations?

It is important to take into consideration the geographic differences of languages. Do you wish to translate to British or American English? Brazilian Portuguese? Mexican Spanish? Such questions should be included in your strategy and marketing plans. An example of this is if you are translating to French for the Canadian market. In such a situation, a conversion of measurements would be advisable, since both metric and imperial systems are used in Canada. Teknotrans staff would be happy to help you.

If you are looking for a long-term language service partner, feel free to contact us for a meeting so we can discuss which solutions will work best for you.
